DAVID: A newly accredited school in San Diego called the California Miramar University opens up offering students supportable tuition and excellent services. It has been around a couple of years now but still a pretty good secret so we’re going to share that with everybody. Ilana Herring joins us this morning to talk about it, the newly accredited school. Good Morning.
ILANA: Good Morning, Thanks for having us, glad to be here.
DAVID: It’s good to have you on you’re the Assistant Director of marketing, Right. Tell us about the school, it has been there for a couple of years.
ILANA: Yeah, We’re still conveniently located, we’re right across the () on Miramar road so easy freeway access and we are accredited by the distance and training council so we are thrilled by this success.
DAVID: Now tell us, you’ve been here a couple of years. How has things been going the first couple of years.
ILANA: Things have been great, we have something, we are business course, we have everything, a masters and an undergraduate program. We have a high rated MBA program. You can go to school just one night a week and after this online, It’s perfect for working professionals, busy schedules, and get your MBA. So really pursue your career and stand out.
DAVID: Yeah, in this past week now, I’ve covered the story about community colleges and how they’re hurting with the government, with the state budget having problems, of course, and everything’s being underfunded right now. How does that work with a private school like yours?
ILANA: What’s so important with California Miramar University is our affordable tuition. We are a fraction of the cost of other universities. So when times are tough, money is tight, you want to go where you have the least pain to your bank and affordable tuition at CMU makes all the difference.
DAVID: So let’s talk about that a little bit, compare it to say, San Diego State School if you could, in a kind of a generic term but how much does it cost to attend the school.
ILANA: Absolutely. Our tuition is only 2.35 a credit hour and undergrad is only 1.55 a credit hour, which is a fraction of a cost of private schools. San Diego State and programs like that has state government money coming in so this is super affordable. Really a tremendous opportunity, there’s nothing like it.
DAVID: What about your teachers, your professors, where have they come from, what type of background do they have?
ILANA: It’s a business school and what’s phenomenal is that our professors have real world business experience. They’ve been in the job, they know the field that they teach, our human resources professor, human management professors, they know their fields and they have the experience. And they have a passion for the classroom, a passion for teaching, they’re not concerned with dealing with concerns like research, only teaching in the real world business experience.
DAVID: You’re talking business school, I’m assuming that you can get better, you can major in accounting, economics. What are some of the topics that you cover.
ILANA: Absolutely, so there’s a associate program, a bachelor’s program and I’m not certain, a business administration? And all business programs, a range of areas, with millions of importance is you’re having access with students and faculty who share your experience. In the high bred program for example, you’re in a class with other students in an arena filled with a lot of entrepreneurs who are interested in starting their own business, working inside of, you know, in San Diego, we have a number of small businesses. It’s a great opportunity to sharpen your skills, improve your resume and get a really affordable education.
DAVID: How are you recruiting? What would you say to the highschool sophomores and juniors and even seniors this year, they’re thinking about college.
ILANA: I would say, come on out, come visit us. Give our admission’s office a call. When you call our admission’s office, ask about an affordable tuition and available scholarships. We have scholarships available and not just high school students but people who are already working, people in their twenties, thirties, fourties, fifties. Prople who are re-careering with the economy, I really think that our education add more opportunities to improve your resume wherein your skills, and bring more to your jobs and more of themselves. And personally, there’s a lot of chance in getting ahead in your office.

DAVID: I was going to ask you about that.
ILANA: Yeah. As you know, the class size is so important. Our student’s classroom is with fifteen students. So a one on one faculty to student ratio is fantastic, professors are available for tutoring, for time. They’ll be available by phone and email. They stay late after class, I mean they are super available, they really care about teaching and they have a passion for it.
